About the Programme
This EduCare programme is written by the NSPCC for anyone who comes into contact with children, young people and their parents or carers in an education setting. It gives an introduction to child abuse, explores the physical and behavioural signs of maltreatment and how to report suspected abuse effectively. It also outlines the legal framework and the importance of people and organisations working together to safeguard children and young people from abuse.

Programme Contents
Module one - Understanding the Basics
Learn about the different types of child abuse: physical, sexual, emotional and neglect. Understand how abuse can affect a child and eliminate misunderstandings by learning about some of the common myths and facts about child abuse.
Module two - Recognising Child Abuse
Recognise the possible physical and behavioural signs of abuse; know how to respond if a child confides in you and what you should do if you suspect a child is being maltreated.
Module three - Reporting Child Abuse
Understand the importance of taking action to prevent child abuse from occurring and know when and when not, to share your concerns with parents. Follow the step-by-step action plan to report any concerns you may have about a child and understand the processes that takes place once you have reported your concerns.
Module Four – Working together
This module outlines the legal child protection framework, including key definitions and duties. It explores roles and responsibilities and the importance of working together to protect children. There are pointers to good practice and how to handle allegations against staff. There are also signposts for further information at the end of the module to enable you to extend your knowledge.
