About the Programme
Supported by Diabetes UK, this programme is designed to help people who have been recently diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. The modules will help people to understand their condition and what they can do practically to work with their healthcare team to manage it effectively. It is also a useful refresher for those who already have the condition.
Programme make-up
· Modular, bite-size format provides an easy way to learn the essentials.
· There are four concise learning modules, four accompanying questionnaires and full instructions throughout.
· There is confirmation of the correct answers to reinforce the participant’s knowledge.
· Available in paper-based and online learning methods.

Programme Contents
Module one – Initial Diagnosis and Control; Type 2 Diabetes
This module provides a definition of Type 2 diabetes and its symptoms. It also introduces the lifestyle changes necessary to maintain good control.
Module two – Care and Support
This module looks at the recommended standards of care you should receive and what you are entitled to. There is a section on what to do when you are feeling unwell and how to handle hypos. There is also a section on keeping people informed, such as the DVLA and your insurance company.
Module three – Diet and Exercise
This module focuses on the ten steps to eating a healthy diet and the importance of being able to read food labels accurately. There is a section on exercise and its benefits.
Module four – A Strategy for Life
This module looks at managing Type 2 diabetes over the long term using an approach called The Alphabet Strategy, the ABC of diabetes. It also looks at 7 key areas to base a care plan around to minimise any complications that may arise.
